The Long Highway

Isaac, like me chose a lobster, a big 2-pounder.

Totally glorious. Eating seafood right next to the ocean that had been prepared seconds ago, nice sweet corn, drawn butter, I mean the works. Even got some fried clams, my God the succulence.

After that we came home and watched The Manchurian Candidate, a great flick that holds up well despite its age. We both wanted to see it before seeing Jonathan Demme's remake.

Sunday

We had Isaac and Julie over for dinner. Now that we have a home, we thought we would make it official by having company. Made grilled steak in a Tuscan marinade (pureed sun-dried tomatoes, wine, olive oil and garlic) and a scallop, aspargus and orange-infused risotto that was really delicious. Appetizer was an antipasto and dessert was vanilla ice cream on anisette tortas drizzled with mandarin-infused olive oil and garnished with mint. Good stuff. Isaac and Julie brought their miniature dachsund puppy over, and in his excitement he piddled the floor a couple of times so Julie ran him home before dinner.

Monday

We overslept, hardly a shock to regular readers of this blog. When we finally got up I did some catching up and spent most of the afternoon reading for school. Attempted to make fried risotto cakes with last night's leftovers but they fell apart -- there must be some trick to it that I don't know. It was still delicious, though, especially with the crisped-up rustic Italian bread from LaBrea Bakery which we enjoyed with it. Watched Midnight Cowboy last night, which I liked somewhat. Very well-edited and acted, I thought, but I can''t quite understand it getting a Best Picture Oscar. Have to look at the competition for that year. Finished off another book for school and then, bed.
